Pak-Turk Maarif International has taken a significant step toward expanding its educational presence in Pakistan by initiating its first-ever school in the Kashmir region. This milestone follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) within the framework of educational cooperation between Türkiye and Pakistan.
As part of this initiative, Pak-Turk Maarif International signed an agreement with the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir for the establishment and allocation of a building for the new Pak-Turk Maarif International Schools & Colleges (PTMISC) AJK Muzaffarabad Campus. With this development, the Muzaffarabad campus will become the 26th Pak-Turk Maarif International campus in Pakistan and its first educational institution in the Kashmir region.
The initiative was initially discussed during the official visit of President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to Pakistan in February 2025. Since then, the project has remained under close consideration at the highest levels, including the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, highlighting the strong commitment of both countries to strengthening educational cooperation.
The Memorandum of Understanding was formally signed on 1 January 2026 between Pak-Turk Maarif International and the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, paving the way for the commencement of educational operations in Muzaffarabad. The signing ceremony was hosted by the Chief Secretary of the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khushal Khan, and attended by Harun Küçükaladağlı, Pakistan Country Director of Pak-Turk Maarif International, Tazeebun Nisa, Secretary Higher Education of the AJK Government, along with senior officials from both sides.
The planned campus will offer K–12 education, featuring 45 state-of-the-art classrooms designed to provide a modern learning environment from early years through upper secondary education. Both national and international academic programmes will be implemented, with the capacity to serve approximately 1,000 students. The school is planned to begin operations in the 2026–2027 academic year.
With the establishment of the AJK Muzaffarabad campus, Pak-Turk Maarif International Schools & Colleges will expand to 26 campuses across Pakistan. Currently, the network operates in 9 cities with 25 campuses, providing quality education to more than 13,000 students nationwide.
Through this new educational initiative in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pak-Turk Maarif International aims to further strengthen educational cooperation between Türkiye and Pakistan and to enhance access to quality education for the youth of the region.
